Nimbin Youth is on track to secure it's own space!
Who is Nimbin Youth?
Nimbin Youth is a grassroots network of youth supporters in the Nimbin community. Nimbin Youth includes local young people, parents, community members, and organisations who support youth. Remote Village is the social enterprise coordinating the launch of Nimbin Youth, pulling together the network to realise the community need for a youth space in Nimbin. Support for Nimbin Youth has been growing steadily from organisations such as Headspace, Social Futures, Rekindling the Spirit, Nimbin Central School, Nimbin Neighbourhood and Information Centre and Lismore City Council.
Launching the Nimbin Youth Centre
The Nimbin Youth Centre is a safe space for young people to hang out, have a feed, catch up on homework, and access various programs and referrals to other services. The building earmarked for the Nimbin Youth Centre is a 52 square-meter space at the Nimbin Community Centre, with neighbours NimFM and the Nimbin Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Nimbin Youth is now seeking donations and pledges to secure a 12 month lease for the youth centre.
Youth Programs
Remote Village is proud to announce two programs recently funded by FRRR and the NSW Government.
The Youth Code is a week long workshop for high schoolers to build their own website is starting in the September school holidays. Youth Fest is a festival for youth, created by youth from the ABC Takeover Lismore workshop, and granted to Nimbin Youth for event management and youth mentorship.
How you can support the Nimbin Youth Centre
Funding to pay the rent for the Nimbin Youth Centre has been donated or pledged by the local Nimbin Community and organisations. At the time of writing, donations and pledges are at approximately half way for the annual rent target.
